Foundations of Swallowing Assessment and Management

The Foundations of Swallowing Assessment and Management Workshop is a focused educational event organized by the Students’ Council and held at King Fahad Medical City. The workshop is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation in the anatomy and physiology of swallowing, cranial nerve involvement, and the recognition of dysphagia, including its common signs, symptoms, causes, and risk factors. It will be delivered by experienced Speech and Language Pathologists, Ms. Reema Al Rasheed and Ms. Zahua Al Obrah.

Through a combination of theoretical instruction and introductory clinical practice, participants will gain practical exposure to bedside swallowing assessments, chart reviews, identification of clinical red flags, and foundational dysphagia management strategies, including IDDSI diet recommendations. The workshop also emphasizes patient and caregiver counseling and highlights the vital role of speech-language pathologists within the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
